One of my clients had an event and asked for some ideas for stick pens. I replied, “Why would you waste your money on that type of pen if you’re trying to get and stay in front of your target audience. You’re not going to achieve your objectives with it. Instead, give them something that helps you be remembered. Helps you build a relationship with them and shows that you’re different.”

Have you ever thought about giving out pens?

Let’s look at this from your prospect’s eyes. Imagine that they’re in a trade show and they get the same stick pen from several booths. They don’t need or want another “plain” pen. They like a pen that is different, feels good in their hand, that has a cool feature or look to it. One that they’ll keep in their purse, they will bring to meetings, that they use every day because it’s their favorite pen. That’s the type of pen you want to give them so you will stand out and be remembered.

Our attention spans are less than a goldfish. That means somebody has to see our branding or message 7 to 12 times before they can remember you. The pen you give needs to be one that they will use daily so they see your marketing every day. Then when they are ready for your products or services, they buy from YOU!
